The NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation is designed for new handgun purchasers, and provides hands-on instruction in the safe handling and proper operation of one specific pistol action type. Classes are usually limited to one to four students.

The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. Both lecture and hands-on range time are included, covering Safety, the operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, shooting skills, and cleaning.

Students may also choose to rent handguns and ammunition from the school for a modest price.
